Overview
Alternative Home Care for Seniors, Inc. was founded in 2002 by brothers, Derrick and Shawn Merchant. Derrick, Alternative’s Chief Administrator, has extensive experience in caregiver/client management. Beginning his career in New York City in the early 90’s, Derrick worked for a large company, working his way up the corporate ladder with 4 promotions in 8 years. In 1999 while there, he was responsible for the delivery of services to 400 clients. Derrick, then managed a home care agency for two years in Atlanta before deciding it was time to start his own company.

Shawn Merchant, CEO, oversees Human Resources and business operations. His resume includes serving in the U.S. Navy, an engineering degree from University of Central Florida and an MBA.

Family plays an integral role in both Shawn and Derrick’s lives. They come from a large family with three brothers and sisters. Each are married with children of their own. Their strong belief in family guides their daily commitment to caring for our own clientele’s loved ones.

Alternative Home Care for Seniors has a growing network of more than 100 caregivers ready to serve clients throughout all major metro Atlanta counties. They are each insured and bonded. Many have worked for Alternative since we opened our doors in 2002. And many continue to come to us through word of mouth.

The agency also employs a Full-Time Care Coordinator, LPN, RN and Marketing Director.
